FinHub at Coinbase is responsible for processing and recording fund movements across crypto, fiat, and internal wallets, and for managing user assets (portfolio performance, tax optimizations, etc.). The team is redesigning foundational ledgering systems to support the next decade of scale and complexity. Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation and team/company offsites are required throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Build scalable systems and components, making tradeoffs for stability and long-term maintainability.
- Design, write, test, and release product-facing features with stringent correctness and scalability requirements.
- Collaborate with frontend and data teams to fine tune REST APIs supporting millions of customers.
- Mentor junior developers and lead technically on large, complex projects.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience working on performant, large-scale distributed systems.
- Familiarity with writing highly concurrent systems and strong intuition for REST API design.
- Proven experience delivering large projects with long-term impact on a system or team.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to solve complex engineering problems aligned with team objectives.
- Ability to mentor junior developers and lead technical initiatives.
Nice to Haves
- Experience through rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
- Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
- Experience with blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with addresses, ENS, dApps).
- Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
- Experience or familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB.
- Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-critical systems.
Compensation & Logistics
- Pay Range: $186,065—$218,900 USD (target annual salary; offers may include bonus, equity, and benefits).
