Coinbase is hiring for a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Reliability team within Infrastructure (Platform). The team focuses on improving system reliability and scalability across the company by owning initiatives such as scalability/load testing, configuration management systems, canary-based safe release capability, and service onboarding. This role helps scale systems 10-20x, secure service configurations and secrets, and reduce customer incidents by improving safe release (canary) deployments.
Responsibilities
- Promote a reliability-first culture across Coinbase and help deliver company-wide reliability goals.
- Design, build, scale, and maintain production services and platform capabilities (configuration management, secrets management, safe release/canary deployment systems).
- Work on large programs including scalability/load testing and onboarding thousands of services that deploy frequently.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code and participate in system design, debugging, observability, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with engineers across levels (junior to principal) and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Participate in in-person team and company offsites and other events as required.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Proven experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures.
- Strong skills in system design, coding, observability, debugging, and performance tuning.
- Ability and willingness to dive into any layer of the stack to understand, debug, and improve systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices.
- Demonstrated critical thinking under pressure and strong interpersonal skills.
Nice to haves
- Familiarity with working in rapid-growth environments.
- Experience with Ruby, Go, and Terraform.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud environments.
- Experience designing and building reliable systems and working in highly regulated environments.
- Experience writing company-facing blog posts and training materials.
- Crypto-forward experience (onchain activity, interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, blockchain-based services).
Location & Work Model
- Remote-first role but not remote-only: in-person participation is required throughout the year (team/company offsites); attendance is expected and supported. Listed as #LI-Remote.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $186,065—$218,900 USD (target annual salary depending on work location). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and more).
- Benefits include medical, dental, vision plans, HSA contributions, disability and life insurance, 401(k) match, wellness stipend, mobile/internet reimbursement, connections stipend, volunteer time off, fertility counseling and benefits, generous time off/leave policy, and the option to be paid in digital currency.
