Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Institutional - Exchange, Market Data & Analytics)

As a key member of the team you will build and operate a large-scale data platform to store, analyze and distribute both historical and real-time data for multiple crypto exchanges. You will take ownership of architecture, engineering and runtime of the data warehouse to service numerous critical solutions for both internal and external data consumers, strengthening Coinbase's position as a global leader in digital asset trading.

Responsibilities

• Build and run a critical data platform covering database management, data pipelining, scaling and data distribution to APIs and frontend solutions.
• Design and implement core trading platform components, market data and derived data solutions; enable new products and order types.
• Ingest, manage and deliver internal and external crypto data for client access, frontend display and large-scale analytics.
• Provide support to Exchange operations and other engineering teams.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers and senior leadership to turn vision into tangible quarterly deliverables.
• Mentor team members and uplift technical skill across the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services and composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
• Passion for building an open financial system and for crypto/blockchain technology.

Nice to haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience with SQL and ClickHouse.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, Python.
• Experience building low-latency trading systems and high-reliability financial systems.
• Relevant onchain / crypto experience (answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience).

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $191,100 — $191,100 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity and benefits (medical, dental, vision and more).
