At Coinbase, the Institutional Staking Engineering team builds and maintains systems to safely manage billions of dollars of staked digital assets across multiple blockchain networks. The role is mission-driven and expects candidates who are passionate about crypto and blockchain, comfortable working in an intense, high-caliber culture, and eager to solve hard problems. The company is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation (team/company offsites) is required throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Build new services to meet critical product and business needs using Golang.
- Design scalable systems to solve novel problems using modern cloud technologies and industry best practices.
- Articulate and drive a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams operating them.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a roadmap each quarter.
- Write high-quality, well-tested production code to meet customer needs.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
- Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services; familiarity with composing a service-oriented architecture.
- Proven ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
- Passion for building an open financial system and working in the crypto/blockchain domain.
Nice to Haves
- Experience with rapid company growth (startup -> mid-size).
- Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
- Experience with blockchain technologies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) and on-chain activity.
- Experience decomposing large monoliths into microservices.
- Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
- Prior work on financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.
- Familiarity with crypto-forward tooling and onchain interactions (ENS, dApps, interacting with addresses).

Compensation
- Pay Range (USD): $186,005 β $218,900 USD (target annual salary). Offers may also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits.
- Pay Range (CAD): $191,100 β $191,100 CAD (listed for relevant locations).
