About Sentry

Bad software is everywhere, and we’re tired of it. Sentry is on a mission to help developers write better software faster so we can get back to enjoying technology. With more than $217 million in funding and 100,000+ organizations using Sentry, the company builds performance and error monitoring tools for customers like Disney, Microsoft, and Atlassian.

Sentry embraces a hybrid work model, with Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays set as in-office anchor days to encourage meaningful collaboration.

About the role

The Issue Workflow team is responsible for Sentry's core debugging experience, including alerts, issue search, and issue details. These are the most visited pages in the product and are critical to the daily workflow for millions of software engineers.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to work on backend systems that process billions of queries per day, tackle challenging distributed systems problems, and ideate/build new product experiences for Sentry to interoperate with humans and AI agents.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering managers, product managers, and product designers to ideate, execute, validate, and iterate quickly on new features; participate in customer calls for direct feedback.
  • Build and maintain features using React (TypeScript) and Django (Python) in the open-source codebase: https://github.com/getsentry/sentry
  • Work on high-impact projects that may touch the entire stack: event ingestion pipeline (https://github.com/getsentry/relay), search and storage systems (https://github.com/getsentry/snuba), and surface data to customers on backend and frontend codebases.
  • Work closely with AI/ML, infrastructure, and other engineering/product/design teams to design and build future Sentry capabilities.
  • Build tests and set up monitoring for your work to maintain high engineering standards.
  • Raise the team’s technical aptitude through code review and mentorship.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with Django and Python (or similar frameworks/languages).
  • Familiarity with React and TypeScript (or similar frontend frameworks/languages).
  • Experience or interest in distributed systems, high-throughput pipelines, search and storage systems, and observability/monitoring.
  • Product-minded: comfortable collaborating with Product and Design and shipping end-user focused workflows.
  • Bonus: prior experience on innovative product-focused teams or open-source contributions.

Benefits

  • Base salary range: $185,000 to $288,000 (actual base salary will depend on factors including work location, experience, skills, and other job-related qualifications).
  • Eligibility to participate in Sentry’s employee benefit plans/programs (including incentive compensation, equity grants, paid time off, and group health insurance coverage). See https://sentry.io/careers/ for more details.
