To achieve our mission, Coinbase is seeking Senior Backend Engineers to join teams within the Platform Product Group (Finhub, Identity, Risk, Regulatory, Payments). The Platform Product Group builds trusted, scalable, and compliant platform foundations used by multiple products and teams at Coinbase. Engineers work on crypto-forward products and features, solving large-scale, highly complex technical problems that bridge web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology. You will operate real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates and manage secure, dockerized infrastructure in the cloud.

Responsibilities

• Build new services to meet critical product and business needs using Golang.
• Design scalable systems to solve novel problems using modern cloud technologies and industry best practices.
• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams that run them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of your customers.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures or microservices.
• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and working with crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to have:

• Experience growing with a company through rapid scale (startup → mid-size).
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $186,065 — $218,900 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

Work location and culture

• Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation (team/company offsites) is required throughout the year and attendance is expected. This role is listed with #LI-Remote.
