Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Platform)

The Platform Product Group builds trusted, scalable, and compliant platform foundations used by multiple products and teams at Coinbase. As a Senior Backend Engineer on teams such as Finhub, Payments, Risk, Regulatory, or Identity, you will build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features, solving large-scale, complex problems that bridge web-scale applications and blockchain technology.

Responsibilities

• Build new services to meet critical product and business needs using Golang.
• Design scalable systems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems and the teams running them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
• Operate real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates, and manage secure, dockerized infrastructure in the cloud.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures.
• Proven ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and familiarity with blockchain concepts is desirable.

Nice to haves

• Experience in rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain interactions (Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $191,000—$191,000 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).

Work arrangement

• Remote-first (LI-Remote), but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites; attendance is expected and supported.
