Senior Software Engineer (Consumer)

Join Coinbase to help build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features. You will solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems at the intersection of web-scale applications and blockchain technology. Work focuses on real-time, high-frequency, low-latency applications and secure, dockerized cloud infrastructure for consumer-facing products (Coinbase app, advanced trade, dapps, staking) with a specific emphasis on expanding Coinbase's presence in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Deliver creative, customer-facing features aimed at bringing 1 billion people on-chain.
• Articulate and execute a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Write high-quality, well-tested production code.
• Actively mentor junior engineers and support their career development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services; familiarity with composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Strong focus on writing high-quality, well-tested code for customer needs.
• Passion for building an open financial system and belief in the power of crypto and blockchain technologies.
• Experience with building and operating dockerized infrastructure in the cloud, and working on real-time, low-latency systems.

Nice to haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup -> mid-size).
• Built growth experiments or A/B tests.
• Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Location & Work Model

• Role supports the Country Expansion team focused on the UK market.
• Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company-wide offsites occur multiple times annually). Attendance at some in-person events is expected and supported.

Compensation & Pay Transparency

• Pay Range: £122,400 — £136,000 GBP (full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits including medical, dental, and vision).
