Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

Join Coinbase's Data Platform team to build and operate systems that centralize internal and third-party data for analytics, machine learning, and product experiences. You will work across the full spectrum of data systems: storage, orchestration, batch and streaming processing, query federation, caching, and internal self-service frameworks. The role is remote-first with required in-person participation throughout the year for team and company offsites.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate foundational data-heavy services: cloud data warehouse, data lake, orchestration (Airflow), batch processing (Spark, SQL), streaming (Kafka), query federation and caching, time-series DB, graph DB, and real-time event aggregation stores.
• Build and maintain data integration and process SDKs used by internal services and product teams.
• Design and build self-service applications and tooling to empower users to manage and troubleshoot data pipelines.
• Design and build services for end-to-end data security and observability: access controls across storage and access layers, data quality tracking, dataset cataloging and lineage, and usage auditing.
• Convert functional requests from data analysts, ML, and security & compliance into reusable and scalable patterns; assemble data microservices into platforms for business verticals and user cohorts.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong backend development skills in Python, Go, or Java.
• Practical experience working with data systems and data pipelines.
• Familiarity with design patterns such as scale-out architectures, caching, key/value, and columnar storage.
• Proficiency with SQL; experience using Python, Airflow, and BI tools to analyze data for operational insights.

Nice to Have

• Crypto-forward experience, including interacting with onchain activity (Ethereum addresses), ENS, dApps, or other blockchain-based services. (Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.)

• Target annual salary range: $186,005 — $218,900 USD (depending on work location). Full-time offers also include target bonus + benefits.
