This role is for a data scientist to lead the evaluation strategy for autonomous vehicle development by building scalable evaluation systems to derive actionable insights from real-world and simulated test data. The position involves owning a critical metric and evaluation workstream, guiding implementation, ensuring impactful outcomes, and aligning with broader multi-functional strategies.
Responsibilities
- Manage and implement product-critical metric and evaluation workstream within the broader autonomous vehicle validation strategy
- Develop robust methods for analyzing sophisticated, unstructured testing with real-world driving
- Deliver metric systems, dashboards, and analysis tools to drive product decisions
- Apply data science methods such as debiasing, sampling, and exposure modeling to ensure accurate critical metrics
- Collaborate closely with simulation, infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams to embed metrics in daily workflows
- Integrate on-road performance with upstream simulation efforts ensuring alignment between real-world outcomes and test coverage
- Influence metric adoption and alignment across teams through clear and consistent technical mentorship
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Data Science roles
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing critical metrics systems or data products for complex, real-world or ML-based systems
- Hands-on application of statistical techniques including debiasing, sampling, exposure control, or experimental design
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and scalable data tools such as Spark and BigQuery
- Strong product focus on usability and measurable impact
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical teams
- Ability to clearly articulate evaluation reasoning and results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or simulation domains
- Experience with simulation feedback loops tied to real-world performance
- Familiarity with performance validation for safety-critical systems in unstructured environments
- Exposure to labeling pipelines or automated evaluation tooling, including human-labeled and automated critical metrics
- Experience taking ownership of a data science workstream from strategy through implementation involving multi-functional coordination
