Details

NVIDIA is seeking a data scientist / senior software engineer to own and deliver a critical component of the evaluation strategy for autonomous vehicle (AV) development. You will build scalable evaluation systems that convert real-world and simulated test data into actionable insights to enable faster, safer product iteration. This role partners closely with simulation, infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams and requires strong product thinking, technical execution, and clear communication of evaluation reasoning and results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement a product-critical metric and evaluation workstream within the broader AV validation strategy.
  • Develop robust methods for analyzing sophisticated, unstructured testing with real-world driving data.
  • Deliver metric systems, dashboards, and analysis tools that drive product decisions.
  • Employ data science methods such as debiasing, sampling, and exposure modeling to ensure accurate and statistically significant critical metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with simulation, infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams to embed metrics in daily development workflows.
  • Integrate on-road performance with upstream simulation efforts to ensure follow-through between real-world outcomes and test coverage.
  • Influence metric adoption and alignment across teams by providing clear, consistent technical mentorship.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering and data science roles.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering critical metric systems or data products for complex, real-world or ML-based systems.
  • Hands-on application of statistical techniques such as debiasing, sampling, exposure control, or experimental design.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and scalable data tools (examples mentioned: Spark, BigQuery).
  • Strong product approach with a focus on usability and measurable impact.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills; able to articulate evaluation reasoning and results to both technical and non-technical customers.

Ways to stand out

  • Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or simulation domains.
  • Experience with simulation feedback loops tied to real-world performance.
  • Familiarity with performance validation for safety-critical systems in unstructured validation environments.
  • Exposure to labeling pipelines or automated evaluation tooling; experience with both human-labeled and automated critical metrics.
  • Experience taking ownership of a data science workstream from strategy through implementation, including multi-functional coordination.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranges (location- and level-dependent):
    • Level 3: 148,000 USD - 235,750 USD
    • Level 4: 184,000 USD - 287,500 USD
  • Eligible for equity and benefits (see NVIDIA benefits).
  • Applications accepted at least until July 29, 2025.
