Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Onramp and Offramp are the bridge between the fiat and onchain economies. Coinbase Onramp is the easiest way to move money onchain, a key part of onboarding users into crypto and enabling our mission to create an open financial system for the world.

You will be joining a startup team of talented engineers within Coinbase on a mission to build the best rails to move money onchain and offchain. Onramp enables billions of dollars a year to come onchain and you will play a critical role in expanding our product offering. Our customers are some of the most used applications in crypto including Coinbase Wallet, Metamask, Phantom, Block (Bitkey), and Ledger.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable backend services and ship fast, accessible UIs that handle real-world edge cases.
• Work on distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven patterns; design and integrate cleanly with internal and third-party services.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and maintain strong engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with designers and product managers to improve customer UX and developer-facing experiences.
• Contribute to developer tooling and platform decisions to make internal developer experience excellent.
• Help expand Onramp product offering and scale systems that enable large volumes of onchain/offchain money movement.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong full-stack engineering skills: experience building both backend services and frontend UIs.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to write well-tested, maintainable code.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with designers and product managers.
• Passion for onchain/Web3 and an understanding of blockchain technologies, particularly Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains.
• Scrappy self-starter mindset and willingness to push through action to improve customer UX.

Nice to haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
• Experience building on top of blockchain technologies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation and Pay Transparency

• Pay Range: $186,065—$218,900 USD (target annual salary; final offer may vary by location).
• Full-time offers may also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
