Senior Software Engineer, Fullstack (Platform - Payments)

The Payments team develops payment infrastructure, workflows, user experiences and APIs to enable fiat-to-crypto flows for individual consumers and large institutions. As a Senior Software Engineer on Payments, you will design and scale systems that power foundational payments services, ensuring they are secure, reliable and performant.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend and frontend payments systems and infrastructure that power multiple products across Coinbase.
• Serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for key projects, driving them from design to production with high accountability.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn vision into a tangible roadmap.
• Mentor and train other team members and contribute to building a strong, inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex fullstack issues, ensuring performance, stability, reliability, and security.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong software engineering skills: build reliable backend services and ship fast, accessible UIs that handle real-world edge cases.
• Strong proficiency in backend technologies (example called out: Golang) and API design.
• Experience with modern frontend stack: JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
• Strong collaboration skills with product, design, and engineering teams.
• Knowledge of high-quality code practices and software engineering processes and how to foster them.
• Passion for building an open financial system and interest in crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to haves

• Experience with Golang, gRPC, Docker, Kafka, AWS cloud, Snowflake, Databricks.
• Experience in the financial domain.
• Crypto-forward experience: familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or other blockchain-based services.

Compensation & Misc

• Pay Range: $191,100—$191,100 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.).
• Note: While many roles are remote-first, Coinbase is not remote-only; in-person participation (team/company offsites) is required throughout the year.
