Grafana Labs is a remote-first, open-source powerhouse with more than 20M users of Grafana worldwide. The company builds observability tools (Grafana, Grafana Cloud, Grafana Enterprise Stack) that include metrics (Grafana Mimir), logs (Grafana Loki) and traces (Grafana Tempo). The OSS Big Tent squad focuses on building and maintaining open source data source plugins that retrieve data powering Grafana dashboards used by teams globally. This is a remote opportunity; the team is particularly interested in applications from EST in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance a portfolio of open source data source plugins for Grafana (examples: Prometheus, Loki, Infinity, MySQL, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Zabbix, GitHub, Google Sheets, Zipkin, CSV, MQTT).
  • Build integrations between third-party services or databases and Grafana via plugins.
  • Innovate and improve the plugin system to enable enhanced capabilities.
  • Support operations and reliability of plugins running in Grafana Cloud, including participating in on-call rotations and responding to incidents.
  • Provide technical support during customer escalations and collaborate with other squads across the Grafana division.
  • Contribute to process improvements and deliver large projects from design through production.

Requirements

  • Solid professional experience as a Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Go and backend services.
  • Operational experience: responsible for operating the software you have built, including participating in on-call rotations and production incident response.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and deployment strategies.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, other observability platforms).
  • Some experience with frontend technologies is valued (TypeScript, React, Redux, RxJS) to help bridge backend and user-facing features.
  • Strong coding skills, ability to design solutions, gather feedback, and deliver large projects.
  • Comfortable working in a remote-first company; strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Self-driven, collaborative, and able to work autonomously in a distributed team.

Compensation & Rewards

  • Canada compensation range: CAD 153,729 - CAD 184,475 (actual compensation varies by level, experience, and skillset).
  • All roles include Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
