Senior Software Engineer, Guest Displays & Platform

Airbnb's Guest Displays & Platforms team owns the main product details page (PDP) that brings together listing details and anchors the guest booking flow, pricing, and availability across Airbnb surfaces. As a Senior Backend Engineer on this team, you will lead development and refinement of major new features central to the guest experience, reconcile new features with existing functionality, collaborate with designers to shape product goals into viable user experiences, and identify patterns and abstractions to increase developer velocity while maintaining technical quality.

Responsibilities

• Explore, shape, and develop new product experiences alongside cross-functional partners (design and product), from ideation to implementation at scale.
• Lead investments into new technical capabilities that enable product innovation.
• Architect and implement complex features with focus on data-driven decision making and performance optimizations.
• Nurture a culture of technical quality from design through code review to production operations.
• Identify and propose solutions to obstacles to technical and product engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with internal teams across Search, Checkout, Reservations, Host Settings, Listings, Payments, Tax, Cities, Trust, and others.
• Advocate for and participate in efforts with other engineering teams to advance Airbnb's engineering processes and technical foundations.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree (preferably in Computer Science) or equivalent experience.
• Considerable experience working in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Fluency in frontend web technologies (examples listed: HTML, CSS, React, GraphQL).
• Demonstrated expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
• Passion for efficiency, availability, technical quality, and system reliability.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to drive alignment and manage projects with stakeholders.
• Ability to make data-driven decisions and articulate tradeoffs for technical decisions.

Location & Work Model

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager. Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $191,000 — $223,000 USD (base pay depends on factors such as experience, skills, and market). This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
