Airbnb (HotelTonight team) is looking for a Senior Engineer with expertise in backend engineering to build the next generation Hospitality & Booking Platform for guests and hotel partners. HotelTonight is a stand-alone hotel-booking service acquired by Airbnb in 2019, focused on last-minute bookings and personalized hotel deals. This role is part of an entrepreneurial team within Airbnb and will impact high-availability, scalable systems for hotel bookings.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver guest- and hotel-partner-facing backend features.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability and speed of backend systems and APIs.
  • Evaluate, identify and define improvements to existing infrastructure; drive the long-term technical roadmap for the team.
  • Serve as engineering lead on projects from ideation through implementation and rollout.
  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to maintain integrity and reliability of the HotelTonight platform.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to meet critical SLAs.
  • Evaluate and experiment with new technologies and techniques for the tech stack.
  • Mentor and support other engineers on the team and in related teams.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience with Java or Ruby.
  • Strong experience working with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres) and key/value stores.
  • Experience scaling and maintaining high-traffic production systems.
  • Experience with server-driven UI architectures, patterns, and API design.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to evaluate technical approaches and propose alternatives.
  • Clear and effective communication with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong project scoping and project management skills.
  • Ability to mentor other engineers.
  • Experience or responsibility for building security and anti-fraud solutions, partner connectivity, and infrastructure improvements is beneficial.

Benefits

  • Base pay range: $191,000 — $223,000 USD (actual base pay depends on factors such as experience, skills, and market conditions).
  • This role may be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
  • Remote-eligible within the United States (must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity); may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with your manager.
