About the role
You will work on building Kora from the ground up as a managed service focused on high availability, performance, security, scalability, and multi-tenancy. The role involves driving technical solutions end-to-end and working closely with the team and stakeholders to design, architect, and develop the compute layer for Kora.
The team focuses on complex distributed systems and infrastructure problems. The posting references recent work and publications about Kora and Confluent Cloud's architecture and performance.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure / cloud networking experience
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
- Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the Cloud
- Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems, etc.)
- Self-starter who can work effectively in teams
- Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages
Preferred / Nice to have
- In-depth familiarity with the JVM
- Strong background in distributed storage systems or databases
- Experience in resource management and QoS
- Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Interest in evangelism (talks, blog posts about Kafka)
- Experience working on databases or data storage
