Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Platform)

The Platform Product Group builds and maintains the platforms critical to Coinbase, and the Networks team is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud-based network infrastructure (ingress/egress, internal and external). This role is remote-first but requires in-person participation throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, deploy, document and manage cloud-based network infrastructure (all ingress and egress, internal and external).
• Implement customer-focused abstractions to simplify and standardize cloud services, topologies and implementations.
• Code iptables and work with software-defined networking primitives.
• Lead and defend technical decisions; provide design justification and coordinate with other teams.
• Understand and plan for long-term infrastructure needs.
• Communicate to gather requirements, evangelize Cloud offerings, and identify gaps and improvements.
• Produce professional documentation and diagrams to communicate concepts and architectures.
• Manage and assist in resolution of complicated technical problems and incidents; provide appropriate communication and escalation.
• Support and maintain existing infrastructure offerings to ensure service and availability.
• Develop strong working relationships with Infrastructure, Security, IT, business partners, stakeholders and vendors.
• Keep up to date with developments and best practices within the domain and make forward-looking recommendations.

Requirements

• At least 5+ years network engineering experience in industry.
• Experience building systems on public cloud providers such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Strong proficiency within a modern tech stack, for example Ruby and Go; familiarity with gRPC and Protobuf for communication.
• Proficiency with low-level primitives such as IP converged networks, AWS VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, and IAM role management/implementation.
• Experience coding iptables and working with software-defined networking.
• Strong software engineering practices and ability to foster high-quality code and processes.
• Excellent communication, documentation skills, and ability to set priorities and balance multiple deadlines.
• Flexibility to adapt and pivot in a dynamic environment.

Nice to Haves

• Crypto-forward experience, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
• Onchain experience may be evaluated via answers to crypto-related questions.

Pay Transparency

• Target annual salary range: $185,500—$185,500 CAD
• Full time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits.

• This is a remote-first role with required in-person participation during the year for team/company offsites. The role is part of Coinbase's Platform Product Group and sits within the Infrastructure organization.
