Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join
Did you know there are millions of vacation rental homes that are managed through 3rd party software systems - that aren’t (yet) on Airbnb? Did you know that there are 3rd party tools our hosts use every day to make their job on Airbnb easier - that they can’t (yet) access through Airbnb? There are thousands of ways we could connect our hosts and guests to homes, products, and services that would complement their experience on Airbnb, but to date, those means of connection have been locked away in a secret lock box that is locked. The Partner Ecosystem team is working to unlock those 3rd party (“3p”) software systems with a Key of Awesomeness, and use them to build a platform for connectivity: bringing hosts and guests closer to the things that matter.
The Difference You Will Make
As a Senior Engineer on the Partner API team, you will work with our most senior technical leaders to design and build the company’s platform strategy for 3p integrations. Your impact will be to free Airbnb product teams to imagine the best ways to build for our customers, even when that means tapping into capabilities or marketplaces developed outside of Airbnb, and to easily build and maintain the external connections to realize those benefits.
A Typical Day
- Gather requirements and work with other engineering leaders to set the vision for our 3p partnership platform that will have Airbnb-wide impact
- Work within your engineering team to design the system architecture, existing and future, for the platform
- Make the right decisions about technology choices
- Mentor top junior engineers, establish and demand best practices through your engineering leadership
- Have a little cookie for morale, because you’ve earned it
- Immerse yourself in the team’s entire software development lifecycle and have a hands-on impact in shaping the process
- Share your team’s work across our company’s tech organization, get buy-in, and influence product strategy across Airbnb to use our awesome platform.
Your Expertise
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, having an ownership role in large-scale software systems
- You’re a builder and implementer who seeks out high impact work (or it seeks out you), and who is proactive, curious, and an excellent communicator
- Ideally built foundational platforms that other product teams within your company then built on top of, and/or built public APIs used by 3rd parties external to your company, or built integrations with other external companies (maybe multiple times).
