Senior Software Engineer, Pricing & Availability

Airbnb was born in 2007 and has since grown to millions of hosts and billions of guest arrivals worldwide. The Pricing and Availability team owns pricing and availability end-to-end — customer-facing surfaces and backend compute — that anchor the booking flow from search to product page to checkout. The team focuses on quality, reliability, simplicity, and shipping regular new pricing features while keeping systems performant and maintainable.

Responsibilities

• Lead large projects spanning engineers, services, and product teams.
• Transform business needs into technical requirements, drive scoping, and lead implementation while coordinating with stakeholders and peer teams.
• Design, build, and launch pricing and availability flows and backend components that are reliable, performant, and scalable.
• Maintain and improve performance of existing systems (low latency, high QPS, tier-zero computation).
• Provide technical direction and critical input to the team roadmap.
• Mentor and support engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams across Search, Checkout, Reservations, Host Settings, Listings, Payments, Tax, Cities, Trust, and others.

Requirements / Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment.
• Demonstrated hands-on expertise in backend systems within large-scale service-oriented architectures.
• Strong programming skills: Scala, Python, Java, C++ or equivalent (listed as primary languages used for hands-on work).
• Passion for efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams at Airbnb.
• Passion to level up those around you through curiosity and mentorship.

Location & Office Policy

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed with your manager.
• You must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states may be excluded). If employed by another Airbnb entity, recruiter will clarify eligible states.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $191,000—$223,000 USD (actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands).
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
