The Difference You Will Make

As a Senior Staff Engineer on the Cloud Infrastructure Compute team, you’ll be the technical leader for the lifecycle management of our Airbnb Kubernetes compute platform. You will enable the Cloud Infrastructure organization to work efficiently and effectively by enhancing all aspects of the engineering experience. This compute platform is the foundation for all features that Cloud Infrastructure delivers in security, networking, developer experience, and efficiency, and ensures the consistency required to enable delivery across multiple cloud vendors. Your peers will rely on you to provide a quality platform that makes it easy to deliver quality features to our product teams across Airbnb.

Your team will provide the reliability, scalability, security, and developer experience necessary for infrastructure teams to deliver enhancements to the platform and product teams to deliver first class experiences to Airbnb Guests and Hosts around the world.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects across multiple teams.
• Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance the Airbnb compute platform (Kubernetes-based).
• Deliver enhancements that drive the cost efficiency of our cloud platform.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Contribute to the multi-year strategy to evolve Airbnb’s Cloud Platform.

Requirements / Qualifications

• BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 12+ years of relevant work experience in infrastructure.
• 4+ years of expertise with a public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure-as-a-service offering (e.g., EC2).
• Kubernetes experience is required.
• Istio/Envoy experience is preferred.
• Experience setting technical direction, planning, and successfully executing on large projects spanning multiple teams.
• Passionate about efficiency, availability, quality, and developer experience.

Location & Office Policy

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. While Remote Eligible, you must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Offices: United States.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $244,000 — $305,000 USD.
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
