This role is part of the Growth organization and focuses on building the next generation of crypto-forward consumer-facing systems and primitives that drive acquisition, engagement, and retention. You will solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems that bridge web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology, operating real-time applications with high frequency, low-latency updates and secure cloud infrastructure. In-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually).

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Head of Growth Engineering (Sr. Director of Eng), Engineering Managers, and Product Managers to improve incentives infrastructure, primitives, and scale spend/profitability with high reliability and confidence.
• Build foundational systems and primitives to drive growth at Coinbase (including referral and incentives programs, notifications, logged-out web experiences, and onboarding flows).
• Drive multi-quarter roadmaps with complex dependencies within and outside the Growth team.
• Provide horizontal technical leadership across a larger team or multiple small teams to improve quality, performance, and operational metrics.
• Operate and evolve systems that require attention to real-time behavior, low-latency updates, scaling, metrics and SLOs, and secure cloud operations.

Requirements

• Strong track record of delivering at scale and driving quality and performance across complex systems.
• Experience driving multi-quarter roadmaps and managing complex dependencies.
• Proven horizontal technical leadership across teams or multiple small teams.
• Deep understanding of what metrics and SLOs reflect product quality and how to move them.
• Passion for crypto and blockchain technology and belief in Coinbase's mission to bring the world onchain.
• Ability to partner cross-functionally with product and engineering stakeholders and communicate effectively across teams.

Nice to haves

• Experience in consumer or growth-focused engineering.
• Experience working with ML directly or via APIs (understanding online/offline model evaluation techniques and how ML can impact user experience).
• Prior experience with incentives systems, notifications systems, logged-out web experiences, and onboarding optimization.
