This role will partner with engineering leadership, EMs, and Product Managers to improve incentives infrastructure and build foundational systems and primitives to drive growth at Coinbase. You will solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems that bridge web-scale applications and blockchain technology, operating real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates, and managing secure cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Growth Engineering (Sr. Director of Eng), EMs, and Product Managers to improve incentives infrastructure, primitives, and scale up spend/profitability with high reliability and confidence.
- Build foundational systems and primitives to drive growth across Coinbase’s consumer product.
- Solve unique, large-scale technical challenges that combine web-scale constraints with blockchain systems.
- Drive quality and performance across complex systems at scale, including defining and improving relevant metrics and SLOs.
- Lead multi-quarter roadmaps with complex dependencies across teams and organizations.
- Provide horizontal technical leadership across multiple teams, influencing architecture, observability, and operational practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, and ML teams to integrate capabilities into growth experiences.
Requirements
- Strong track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or a larger organization.
- Experience driving multi-quarter roadmaps and coordinating complex dependencies.
- Experience building and operating web-scale systems with attention to quality, performance, and SLO-driven engineering.
- Comfort working with real-time, high-frequency, low-latency applications and secure cloud infrastructure.
- Passion for crypto and blockchain technology and belief in the mission of making cryptocurrency accessible globally.
- Ability to partner cross-functionally with Product Managers and other stakeholders to deliver impact.
Nice to haves
- Experience in consumer or growth-focused engineering (referrals, incentives, onboarding, notifications).
- Experience working with machine learning directly or via APIs (online/offline model evaluation techniques).
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills spanning incentives experience and infrastructure pods.
Work arrangement
- Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year; team and company offsites are held multiple times annually and attendance is expected and supported.
Pay and other details
- Pay Range: $260,100—$260,100 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
