At Coinbase we seek a Senior Staff Backend Engineer to join the Growth & App Infrastructure organization to help build the emerging onchain platform and scale growth-oriented systems. The role is remote-first with in-person participation required throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually).

Role summary

You will partner with engineering leadership, engineering managers, and product managers to design and build foundational systems and primitives that drive growth at Coinbase. The role focuses on incentives infrastructure, rewards services, onboarding and logged-out web experiences, and scaling systems with high reliability and confidence.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Head of Growth Engineering, EMs, and Product Managers to improve incentives infrastructure, primitives, and scale spend/profitability with high reliability and confidence.
• Build foundational systems and primitives to drive growth at Coinbase.
• Build and scale user experience across incentives and rewards services.
• Drive multi-quarter roadmaps with complex dependencies within and outside the Growth team.
• Provide horizontal technical leadership across larger teams or multiple small teams.
• Drive quality and performance across complex systems at scale; define and move metrics and SLOs that reflect product quality.

Requirements

• Strong track record of horizontal technical leadership across larger teams or multiple small teams.
• Ability to drive multi-quarter roadmaps with complex dependencies.
• Experience driving quality, performance, and reliability across complex systems at scale and setting/moving SLOs and relevant metrics.
• Cross-functional partnership skills to work across incentives experience and infrastructure pods.

Nice to haves

• Experience in consumer- or growth-focused engineering.
• Experience working with ML directly or via APIs (understanding online/offline model evaluation techniques and opportunities for ML to improve user experience).

Compensation

• Pay Range: $253,895 — $298,700 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity and benefits including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
