Senior Systems Engineer, Slack

Airbnb's Collaboration Products team owns the tech stack and ecosystem for internal collaboration technologies. The Senior Systems Engineer for Collaboration Products will focus on advancing the Slack ecosystem and integrations across the collaboration stack, accelerating migrations to cloud-native solutions, and working closely with BizTech, Security, Procurement, product stakeholders, and external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize Slack integrations, workflows, and apps to improve internal collaboration and user experience.
• Develop custom scripts or use third-party solutions to move data between collaboration tools (Slack, Asana, Airtable, Jira Cloud, Salesforce, etc.).
• Review and optimize existing scripts and integrations for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and produce documentation.
• Conduct assessments to ensure collaboration tools and integrations follow information security and governance best practices.
• Lead complex migrations from on-premise data center tools to modern cloud solutions, including data transfers, pipeline creation, automation, and scheduling.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members.
• Participate in on-call rotations for the suite of collaboration tools.
• Stay current with industry trends related to Slack, cloud technologies, and security standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years as an in-house or consulting engineer in an enterprise cloud environment.
• 5+ years of experience migrating on-premise tools to cloud platforms (data transfers, pipeline creation, automation scripts, scheduling tasks / cron jobs).
• Minimum 3+ years hands-on experience managing, administering, and optimizing Slack, including building integrations, bots, workflows, and apps.
• Hands-on coding, automation, and scripting experience with JSON, REST APIs, Java, Groovy, Python, and similar technologies.
• Familiarity with integration platforms such as Mulesoft or Tray.io is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing integrations across a cloud-based collaboration ecosystem (Slack, Atlassian Jira, Asana, Airtable, Moveworks, Miro, Zoom, Salesforce, etc.).
• Extensive hands-on experience migrating enterprise applications from on-premise to cloud; experience architecting these migrations is a strong plus.
• Knowledge and understanding of AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, EC2, Load Balancers, ECR, EKS, etc.).
• Strong system architecture, data modeling, and integration framework knowledge.
• Demonstrated knowledge of security and governance frameworks and best practices for secure and compliant cloud solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to participate in on-call rotations.

Benefits & Compensation

• Base pay range: $162,000 — $190,000 USD (actual base pay depends on training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands).
• This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Location & Work Policy

• This position is US - Remote Eligible. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required as agreed with your manager.
• Candidates must live in a U.S. state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity (some states are excluded).
