OpenAI builds powerful AI systems like ChatGPT, the OpenAI API, and enterprise products that serve millions of users across the globe. As the company scales, securing infrastructure, protecting sensitive data, and meeting global compliance standards are essential. Security at OpenAI spans infrastructure, applied engineering, legal, policy, and product. Technical Program Managers (TPMs) play a critical leadership role in aligning teams and delivering execution at scale.
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive cross-functional security, privacy, and compliance initiatives at the intersection of infrastructure, product, and policy. This role executes complex programs that reduce internal data access, prevent misuse, and ship security capabilities. Focus areas include insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology challenges. The role is deeply technical and execution-focused and requires a structured operator who thrives in ambiguity, partners across boundaries, and applies principled judgment to scale trust, governance, and security across OpenAI's systems and products.
Responsibilities
- Drive execution of critical security and compliance programs such as vulnerability management, merger and acquisition security and integration, infrastructure hardening, and datacenter security management; collaborate deeply on technical architecture and resolve technical problems with engineering partners.
- Partner with Infrastructure, Application, Legal, Privacy, and Security teams to build scalable programs and deliver outcomes across insider threat, information security, physical security, and IT.
- Establish scalable frameworks and programs around vulnerability management, evidence collection, incident response coordination, supply chain risk management, and device security.
- Track and enforce OpenAI's privacy and security requirements by translating commitments into engineering milestones and driving implementation across systems.
- Create and maintain program-level visibility across risk areas, security milestones, and cross-org dependencies to ensure reliable, high-quality outcomes.
- Communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions clearly to technical and executive audiences and drive cross-functional execution with urgency and care.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience leading complex technical programs focused on infrastructure security, data privacy, compliance, or enterprise platform capabilities.
- Experience at Senior Manager, Director, or equivalent level in a fast-paced, high-scale technology company; preferably with deep security and infrastructure exposure.
- Deep fluency in the intersection of engineering systems, security controls, and regulatory expectations, with the ability to bring clarity and structure across all three.
- Proven record of success driving highly cross-functional efforts across engineering, infrastructure, legal, compliance, and product stakeholders.
- Strong communication, leadership, systems thinking, and program execution skills; structured, detail-oriented, and rigorous in ensuring quality and accountability.
