Details

You will join Eneco Trading to build production-ready short-term forecasting products that reduce imbalance costs and improve (renewable) profitability. The role owns the full lifecycle from concept to live deployment, partnering with analysts, meteorologists, traders, engineers and data scientists to deliver trader-ready signals that directly impact P&L. You will work hands‑on with Python, Spark/Databricks, MLflow, CI/CD, monitoring and APIs, balancing time-to-market with fit-for-purpose accuracy and robustness.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end forecasting products: problem framing, data strategy, modeling, back testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Ship quickly: deliver “good-enough” baselines fast and iterate toward P&L impact (balancing speed vs. accuracy).
  • Productionize at scale with robust MLOps practices (model versioning, automated deployment, monitoring).
  • Reduce imbalance costs and risk; collaborate with analysts to set KPIs and measure value.
  • Develop and improve short-term forecast products tailored to trading desk needs.
  • Act as a sparring partner for operations and engineering; maintain strong cross-department communication.
  • Contribute to the forecasting strategy and explore new methodologies for the long-term roadmap.

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years in a forecasting or data science role, ideally in energy markets, trading, or other time-sensitive domains.
  • Strong in Python and core data science libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
  • Proven ability to scale solutions with Spark/Databricks.
  • Experience with MLOps tooling such as MLflow, CI/CD, model versioning, deployment and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with time-series modeling and short-term optimization; probabilistic methods and back testing discipline are a plus.
  • Domain knowledge in meteorology or weather-driven forecasting is highly valued (experience with NWP models and ensemble blending is a plus).
  • Engineering mindset: comfortable discussing query optimization, job scheduling (Airflow or Databricks Workflows) and CI/CD best practices.
  • Entrepreneurial approach: initiative-taking, dynamic working style and focus on commercial impact.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to bridge technical and commercial teams.

Benefits / What we offer

  • Gross annual salary between €86.000 and €120.000 (including FlexBudget, 8% holiday allowance, and depending on role a bonus or collective profit sharing).
  • FlexBudget: have it paid out, buy extra holiday days or save it up.
  • Personal and professional growth support.
  • Hybrid working: 40% at the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly. With manager approval, work abroad (within approved countries) up to 3 weeks/year (max 2 consecutively).
  • A collaborative, technically advanced trading environment where your work directly impacts P&L.

Work environment

  • Based in Rotterdam within Eneco Trading's Energy Trading Desk, working closely with analysts, traders and engineers in a high-impact, real-time decision environment.
