The team is responsible for developing and maintaining software systems that support iterative development, testing, and deployment, enabling high velocity and a frictionless development cycle.
About the Role
As a Software Engineer, you will develop and maintain software systems that support OpenAI’s build system and infrastructure, with a focus on scalability, performance, observability, and reliability. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. Telecommuting is permitted from within the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain software systems for iterative development, testing, and deployment
- Design and implement continuous integration pipelines, testing infrastructure, and support around OpenAI’s build system
- Work on scalability, performance, observability, and security of infrastructure to meet rapidly increasing demands
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to specify and implement availability, performance, correctness, and efficiency requirements
- Proactively monitor systems to identify issues and anomalies and implement fault-tolerant and resilient design patterns
- Build and maintain automation tools to streamline repetitive tasks and improve system reliability
- Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to critical incidents and ensure 24/7 system availability
Requirements
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD and testing infrastructure
- Experience working on system scalability, performance optimization, observability, reliability, and security
- Experience with automation tooling to streamline operational and development tasks
- Experience participating in on-call rotations and responding to incidents
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and meet availability and correctness requirements
Compensation Range
$160,000 to $300,000 per year
