Software Engineer, Backend - Blockchain Platform

This role is for a backend software engineer on Coinbase's Wallets team, building backend systems that construct, sign, broadcast, and ingest on-chain transactions and enable Coinbase users to interface with 50+ blockchains. The team focuses on high-throughput blockchains, scaling services for millions of daily users, and reimagining how Coinbase interfaces with blockchains for custodial products.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain the future of Coinbase's wallet systems and backend services
• Collaborate with teams across the company on integrations with wallet services
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain high code quality standards
• Troubleshoot and debug complex problems in production systems
• Build, scale, and maintain production services as part of a service-oriented architecture

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of professional experience in software engineering
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services
• Knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture and decomposing large software systems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work closely with team members and stakeholders
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code with strong attention to detail
• Passion for crypto, blockchain technology, and building an open financial system
• Familiarity with Go (Golang) and/or Ruby is a plus

Nice to haves

• Crypto background
• Experience with Solana data, indexing, and/or scaling large systems
• Crypto-forward experience, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services

Work setup

• Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites; attendance is expected and supported.

Pay Range

• Target annual salary: $147,900—$174,000 USD (offers may include bonus, equity, and benefits)
