Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Coinbase Card)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. We are seeking experienced backend engineers to join the Coinbase Card team to build and design our crypto Card product with a focus on global availability, safety of funds, outstanding reliability and ease of use. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Build new services to meet critical product and business needs using Golang for our Card program.
• Help articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of customers.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience with Card products and having built or worked on such a product at scale.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Strong emphasis on writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and belief in the power of crypto/blockchain technology.

Nice to have

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup -> mid-size).
• Built growth experiments or A/B tests.
• Experience with blockchains (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) and familiarity with onchain activity.
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Postgres, MongoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.
• Crypto-forward experience.

Pay Transparency

Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits.

Pay Range: $147,000—$174,000 USD
