Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Coinbase One)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. This role is part of Coinbase One and focuses on backend engineering for a consumer-facing membership product that provides benefits like zero trading fees, boosted staking rewards, account protection, and priority support.

This role expects a candidate who is passionate about crypto and blockchain technology, comfortable working in an intense, high-performance culture, and eager to collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership. While remote-first, the role requires in-person participation throughout the year (team and company offsites), and attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of customers.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services.
• Knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system.

Nice to haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience with blockchains (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-focused systems.
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS) and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Pay

Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target bonus + target equity + benefits also included in full-time offers). Job #: GCBE04US
