Coinbase One is a consumer membership product that provides benefits like zero trading fees, boosted staking rewards, account protection, an account‑linked credit card, and priority support. This role contributes to designing, building, scaling, and maintaining the backend systems that power Coinbase One.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote‑first, we are not remote‑only. In‑person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company‑wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Articulate a long‑term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap each quarter.
• Write high‑quality, well‑tested code to meet the needs of customers.
• Design, build, scale, and maintain production services and compose service‑oriented architectures.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services.
• Familiarity with composing service‑oriented architectures (SOA / microservices patterns).
• Strong emphasis on writing high‑quality, well‑tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and belief in the power of crypto and blockchain technology.
• Comfortable collaborating cross‑functionally with product, design, and engineering stakeholders.

Nice to haves

• Experience working through rapid company growth (startup → mid‑size).
• Experience with blockchains such as Bitcoin or Ethereum.
• Experience building financial, high‑reliability, or security‑sensitive systems.
• Crypto‑forward experience (on‑chain activity, interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or other blockchain‑based services).

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range (target annual salary, depending on work location): $152,405 — $179,300 USD. Full‑time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
