Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Growth)

At Coinbase you will help build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features. You'll solve large-scale, complex technical problems at the intersection of web-scale applications and blockchain technology, operating real-time applications with high-frequency, low-latency updates and secure cloud infrastructure.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, they are not remote-only — in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites. Attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Build and run experiments to power the growth of Coinbase’s retail products (including referral and incentives programs, notifications, logged-out web experience, and onboarding flow).
• Design scalable systems to solve novel problems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and maintain production services.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services; familiarity composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Habit of writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and interest in crypto/blockchain.

Nice to have

• Experience launching new products from 0 to 1.
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Experience with blockchain technology (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB or DynamoDB.
• Experience building fintech, highly reliable and/or secure systems.
• Familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, blockchain-based services).

Compensation

• Pay Range: $147,000 — $174,000 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits.

• Coinbase pilots AI-based tools for initial screening and interview intelligence for select roles; these pilots are used for testing and Coinbase will not use AI to make final employment decisions.
