Software Engineer, Backend - (Consumer - Products)

You will work on large-scale, high-frequency, low-latency, real-time applications, and manage secure, dockerized infrastructure running in the cloud.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only: in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually). #LI-Remote

Responsibilities

• Decompose a monolithic Rails app into microservices.
• Articulate and execute a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
• Solve large-scale, complex technical problems at the intersection of web-scale applications and blockchain technologies.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and familiarity with crypto/blockchain concepts is desired.

Nice to Haves

• Experience through rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
• Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
• Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Compensation

• Pay Range: 149,500 CAD (target annual salary shown). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision).
