Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Trading)

We are seeking experienced backend engineers to join the Trading team to build and scale the core systems that power crypto trading at Coinbase. This role sits at the intersection of crypto, trading infrastructure, and consumer product, and requires contributing to high-performance, highly available systems used by traders worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Power highly performant, highly available systems for traders worldwide
• Architect robust systems that are easy to build on top of supporting many instrument types (Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures, and more)
• Work in tight collaboration with product and design to articulate a best-in-class product experience
• Translate your best ideas into tangible, high value features customers love

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services as they evolve over time
• High bar for product excellence; pairing customer obsession with comprehensive observability
• Ability to empower and cultivate teammates; strong collaboration and communication skills
• Keep up-to-date with industry standards and best practices

Nice to Haves

• Experience with active trading systems or other similar high-availability financial systems
• Personal experience trading crypto or other financial instruments
• Experience from rapid company growth (startup -> mid-size)
• Experience upgrading or re-architecting significant parts of legacy systems
• Experience with Golang, MongoDB, Redis
• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity

Location & Work Model

• Remote-first but not remote-only: in-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and supported.

Compensation & Job Details

• Job #: GCBE04CA
• Pay Range: $154,000—$154,000 CAD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Interview & AI Pilots

• Coinbase is piloting AI tools for initial screening interviews for select roles. Interview responses (voice recording and/or transcript) may be used for assessment by a human recruiter. For other select roles, Coinbase is piloting BrightHire to transcribe and summarize interview notes. These pilots do not make employment decisions.
