This role is within the Institutional Product Group working on products that serve institutional customers (Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Advanced Trade, Prime - Custody Only, Prime Web3 Wallet, Commerce and Exchange). The Institutional, Derivatives Exchange team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and expand our crypto derivatives business, building low-latency, production-grade systems.

Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only: in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites). Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience. Job #: GIBE04US. #LI-Remote.

Responsibilities

• Join the engineering team responsible for building mission-critical, submillisecond systems underpinning our Derivatives Exchanges.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical plans, iterate on design and implementation, and deliver features and products.
• Participate in architectural decisions; foster strong ownership, high quality, and operational excellence for complex, distributed systems at scale.
• Collaborate with Product and Operations teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of production systems.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services and composing a service-oriented architecture.
• Strong emphasis on writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and interest in crypto and blockchain technology.

Nice to haves

• Experience building and operating 24/7 financial trading systems (Matching Engines, Order Management Systems, Risk Engines, Market Data, Order Gateways) and understanding how these systems differ from traditional web architectures.
• Operating systems expertise.
• Experience working with managed infrastructure providers like AWS and/or GCP.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
