Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
This role sits on the Institutional product group (Foundations) that supports Coinbase’s institutional business — enabling custody, staking, governance and web3 gateways for institutions. You will work on large-scale, high-frequency, low-latency real-time applications and secure, dockerized cloud infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Decompose a monolithic Rails application into microservices.
- Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
- Write high-quality, well-tested production code to meet customer needs.
- Solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems at the intersection of web-scale applications and blockchain technology.
Requirements
- At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services.
- Knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture (microservices).
- Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
- Passion for building an open financial system and working with crypto and blockchain technologies.
Nice to Haves
- Experience through rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
- Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
- Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum).
- Experience decomposing large monoliths into microservices.
- Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB or Redshift.
- Experience building financial, high-reliability or security-focused systems.
- Crypto-forward experience (onchain activity, interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services).
Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate your onchain experience.
Working Model
Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites. Attendance at those events is expected and supported.
