At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. We build the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. This role is on the Institutional product group supporting Coinbase's institutional business and foundations for custody, staking, governance and web3 gateways. The team works on scalable, secure crypto platform features, infrastructure and UI surfaces across web, mobile and browser extensions.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually; attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

  • Decompose a monolithic Rails application into microservices.
  • Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
  • Solve large-scale, highly complex technical problems bridging web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology.
  • Operate real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates and manage highly secure, dockerized infrastructure running in the cloud.

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services and composing a service-oriented architecture.
  • Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and familiarity with crypto/blockchain concepts is beneficial (answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience).

Nice to haves

  • Experience going through rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
  • Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
  • Experience with blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
  • Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
  • Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB or Redshift.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability or security systems.
  • Crypto-forward experience, including interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

  • Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).
