The Institutional Product Group enables the foundations of Coinbase's institutional business supporting thousands of large financial institutions. We enable institutions to custody their digital assets and participate in the crypto economy in a secure and safe way. The team builds scalable & secure crypto platform components supporting hundreds of assets and enabling crypto participation with staking, governance and web3 gateways. The Markets Derivatives team is responsible for developing and managing core systems powering both Coinbase’s US Derivatives and International Exchanges, including Matching Engines, Order Management System, FIX, REST, and Market Data gateways.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new trading products and features
  • Extend and scale the low latency platform on which trading runs
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers and senior leadership to deliver on the product roadmap
  • Improve developer efficiency, engineering excellence, and operational excellence
  • Provide support to operations and other engineering teams
  • Mentor team members and help uplift technical skill across the team

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures
  • Strong engineering practices: write high-quality, well-tested code and operate production services
  • Passion for building an open financial system and familiarity with blockchain/crypto concepts (staking, governance, web3 gateways)
  • Experience with low-latency, high-reliability systems and trading infrastructure is highly relevant (Matching Engines, Order Management Systems, Market Data gateways, FIX/REST APIs)

Nice to haves

  • Experience with Java, Aeron, Golang, Postgres, Kafka, Protobuf, and React
  • Prior experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems

Work arrangement

  • Remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually).

Pay Range

  • Target annual salary: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (full-time offers may include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and benefits)
