Details

At Coinbase we are building the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. The Institutional product group supports Coinbase's institutional business — custody, staking, governance and web3 gateways — enabling institutions to participate in the crypto economy securely and at scale. This backend role focuses on solving large-scale, highly complex technical problems that bridge web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology, operating real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates and managing secure, dockerized infrastructure in the cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Decompose a monolithic Rails app into microservices and contribute to service oriented architectures.
  • Articulate long-term technical vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
  • Work with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to convert product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap each quarter.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
  • Operate and maintain production services that run with high frequency, low latency updates and secure dockerized cloud infrastructure.

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services and composing service-oriented architectures.
  • Ability to write high quality, well-tested code.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and working with crypto/blockchain technologies (preferred).
  • Willingness to participate in in-person activities throughout the year (team and company offsites are held multiple times annually).

Nice to haves

  • Experience through rapid company growth (startup -> mid-size).
  • Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
  • Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).
  • Experience decomposing large monoliths into microservices.
  • Familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision plans with generous employee contributions
  • Health Savings Account with company contributions
  • Disability and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Wellness stipend, mobile/internet reimbursement, connections stipend
  • Volunteer time off, fertility counseling and benefits
  • Generous time off/leave policy
  • Option to receive payment in digital currency

Pay Transparency

  • Target annual salary range (depending on work location): $152,405 — $179,300 USD
  • Full time offers also include target bonus + benefits (medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
