Details

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. This role is for experienced backend engineers to build the next generation of crypto-forward products and features for institutional customers. You will work on large-scale, highly complex technical problems bridging web-scale application constraints and blockchain technology. The role involves operating real-time applications with high frequency, low latency updates and managing secure, dockerized infrastructure in the cloud. The Institutional product group supports custody, staking, governance and web3 gateways for thousands of large financial institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Decompose a monolithic Rails application into microservices.
  • Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to convert product and technical vision into quarterly roadmaps.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
  • Build scalable, secure systems that support hundreds of assets and enable crypto participation features (staking, governance, web3 gateways).

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services.
  • Knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture and decomposing monoliths to microservices.
  • Strong emphasis on writing well-tested, production-quality code.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability or security systems is valued.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating across disciplines.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with rapid company growth phases (startup to mid-size).
  • Experience designing and running growth experiments or A/B tests.
  • Experience with blockchains (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps).
  • Experience decomposing large monoliths into microservices.
  • Familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
  • Crypto-forward experience and familiarity with staking, governance, and web3 gateways.

Additional Details

  • Job #: GIBE04US
  • Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.
  • Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year and attendance at offsites is expected and supported. (#LI-Remote)
