At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Institutional product group enables the foundations of Coinbase's institutional business supporting thousands of large financial institutions. The Institutional Staking Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining the systems required to safely manage billions of dollars of staked digital assets across multiple blockchain networks. Staking allows customers to earn yield and helps secure blockchain networks by increasing staked funds and validator diversity.

Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites. Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
  • Work with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap.
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of customers.

Requirements

  • At least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • Experience designing, building, scaling and maintaining production services.
  • Knowledge of composing a service-oriented architecture.
  • Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code.
  • Passion for building an open financial system and for crypto/blockchain technologies.

Nice to haves

  • Experience with rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
  • Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
  • Experience with blockchains (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum).
  • Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
  • Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB or Redshift.
  • Experience building financial, high-reliability or security systems.
  • Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services).

Pay & Additional Information

  • Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary depending on work location). Full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity and benefits (medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
