Software Engineer, Backend (Institutional - Staking)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Institutional Product Group enables the foundations of Coinbase's institutional business supporting thousands of large financial institutions. The Institutional Staking Engineering team builds and maintains systems required to safely manage billions of dollars of staked digital assets across multiple blockchain networks, enabling customers to earn yield and helping secure underlying blockchain networks.

Responsibilities

• Articulate a long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems.
• Work with engineers, designers, product managers and senior leadership to turn product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap each quarter.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.
• Design, build, scale and maintain production services and compose service-oriented architectures.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production backend services.
• Familiarity with composing service-oriented architectures and microservices.
• Strong emphasis on writing high-quality, well-tested code.
• Passion for building an open financial system and working in a fast-paced environment focused on reliability and security.

Nice to haves

• Experience with rapid company growth (startup → mid-size).
• Experience building growth experiments or A/B tests.
• Experience with blockchains (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) and onchain activity (interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps).
• Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
• Familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security-sensitive systems.
• Crypto-forward experience and familiarity with staking and onchain services.

Pay Range and Compensation

• Target annual salary range: $152,405—$179,300 USD.
• Full-time offers include bonus eligibility + equity eligibility + benefits.
