Anthropic is seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to join the Life Science team and work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI and the biological sciences. The team builds robust, scalable systems for high-volume production workloads and focuses on accelerating progress in life sciences from early discovery through translation. As a founding member of this team you will prototype new products and features, implement production-ready infrastructure, and collaborate closely with researchers and domain experts to translate biological requirements into reliable technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop deep understanding of critical workflows in life science and build novel AI solutions to address the needs of biologists and life science professionals
- Rapidly prototype novel products and product features
- Create intuitive interfaces that enable scientists to effectively utilize AI tools for discovery and analysis
- Collaborate with domain experts to translate complex biological requirements into technical implementations
- Work closely with research including post-training to ensure Claude is capable of enabling complex workflows in these areas
- Build resilient, production-ready systems that can scale to meet demanding computational requirements while ensuring data integrity and security
Requirements
- 7+ years of practical experience building production full-stack software with a focus on usability
- Experience with data analysis and experimentation frameworks
- Data-driven approach to problem solving; ability to identify patterns and opportunities in user behavior and metrics
- Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on product ideas
- Strong collaboration skills; experience working with cross-functional partners (researchers, domain experts)
- Commitment to high ethical standards when applying AI to scientific discovery
- Education: At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Strong candidates may also have:
- Experience integrating and working with AI/ML models and understanding their capabilities, particularly for scientific use cases
- Startup experience, particularly in building products from zero to one
Benefits & Logistics
- Annual base salary range: $300,000 - $320,000 USD
- Total compensation includes equity, benefits, and may include incentive compensation

- Location-based hybrid policy: staff are expected to be in one of Anthropic's offices at least 25% of the time
