At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Staking Validators team operates staking-related nodes and proof-of-stake validator infrastructure at scale. The team focuses on secure, highly available validator operations, observability, performance optimization, and delivering best-in-class staking experience for internal teams and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard, operate, and optimize proof-of-stake network infrastructure and validators.
  • Operate and scale a large validators fleet with a focus on security and uptime.
  • Build and maintain observability and monitoring systems to ensure high performance and availability.
  • Innovate to optimize operations and maximize yield for customers.
  • Act as a protocol owner ("Protocol CTO") for assigned protocols: engage with protocol communities and partners and drive technical direction and operational success.
  • Work on technically challenging problems related to running blockchain nodes at scale and improving node architecture and reliability.
  • Participate in in-person team and company-wide offsites as required (role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation expected throughout the year).

Requirements

  • Experience with blockchain and crypto technologies (proof-of-stake, staking, validator operations).
  • Experience operating nodes and infrastructure at scale with a focus on uptime, reliability, and security.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring to ensure top-tier uptime and performance.
  • Experience working with or on protocols such as Ethereum and Solana (public posts referenced: Ethereum Validator Performance Report, Solana Validator Performance Report, and posts on staking node architecture and operating on Kubernetes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate autonomously as a protocol owner; ability to engage with external communities and partners.
  • Comfortable working in an intense, high-performance culture and iterating based on feedback.
