Software Engineer, Blockchain Platform (Staking Validators)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Staking Validators team is responsible for operating all staking-related nodes at Coinbase and building the onchain platform that will help shape the future global financial system.

Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually and attendance is expected and supported.

Responsibilities

• Operate, onboard, and optimize proof-of-stake network infrastructure (staking-related nodes) at scale.
• Build infrastructure to provide secure, high-uptime validator operations with strong observability and monitoring.
• Innovate to improve yield and operational efficiency for customers.
• Act as a "Protocol CTO" for the protocol you own: engage with protocol communities and partners, iterate on architecture and operational practices, and drive protocol-specific improvements.
• Empower internal Coinbase teams and external customers with a best-in-class staking experience.
• Solve technically challenging problems of operating highly performant blockchain nodes at scale.

Requirements

• Experience working with blockchain validator/node operation concepts (proof-of-stake networks, validators).
• Experience with observability and monitoring tooling and best practices for production infrastructure.
• Experience operating services on Kubernetes (the team publishes material on operating staking nodes on Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with Ethereum and Solana validator architectures and performance considerations (public reports referenced by the team).
• Ability to engage with protocol communities and partners and to own protocol-level technical decisions.
• Comfort operating and optimizing production infrastructure for uptime, performance, and security.

Pay Transparency

Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits).
