Details

Join Coinbase's Staking Validators team to operate and scale staking-related nodes across proof-of-stake networks. This role focuses on building and operating highly performant, secure validator infrastructure that delivers best-in-class uptime and yield for customers, while engaging with protocol communities and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard, operate, and optimize proof-of-stake validator infrastructure at scale.
  • Design and build infrastructure for high uptime, performance, reliability, and security of validator nodes.
  • Develop and maintain observability and monitoring systems to ensure top-tier uptime and performance.
  • Innovate to improve yield, operational efficiency, and scalability of staking operations.
  • Own one or more protocols as a "Protocol CTO": engage with community members and partners, lead protocol-level technical decisions, and represent Coinbase in protocol ecosystems.
  • Collaborate with internal Coinbase teams and external stakeholders to deliver a best-in-class staking experience.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of blockchain concepts, particularly proof-of-stake, validators, and staking operations.
  • Experience operating and optimizing validator or node fleets at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of observability and monitoring practices for distributed systems and production services.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployment patterns (referenced in team materials and blog posts).
  • Experience with performance optimization, reliability engineering, and secure operations for critical infra.
  • Comfortable engaging with external protocol communities and partners; ability to drive protocol-specific technical strategy for owned protocols.
  • Strong problem solving, ownership, and communication skills; ability to operate with high autonomy.

Preferred / Helpful Experience

  • Hands-on experience with Ethereum and/or Solana validator operations (team publishes performance reports for these protocols).
  • Prior experience running production blockchain nodes, network-level troubleshooting, or large-scale distributed system operations.

Pay & Location Notes

  • Pay Range (depending on work location): $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary). Full-time offers include bonus, equity, and benefits.
  • Role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation and team/company offsites are required throughout the year.
