Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Platform (Compute)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Platform Product Group builds and maintains critical platforms, and the Compute team builds and operates the Kubernetes platform used for service orchestration at Coinbase. Many roles at Coinbase are remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.

Responsibilities

• Build tooling and automation to make management of our Kubernetes clusters easy and reliable.
• Build tooling and automation to improve the developer and operational experience of working with Kubernetes for all users.
• Operationalize the Kubernetes platform so it is automated and self-healing to reduce on-call burden.
• Develop new Kubernetes-related capabilities for service owners (e.g., one-off jobs, cron, different deployment strategies, support for EFS, automated right sizing).
• Support customers (service owners) as they operate critical services on Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with Routing, Security, Reliability, and Observability teams.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of software engineering experience.
• Ideally some knowledge of Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration systems (e.g., Mesos, Nomad).
• Working AWS and/or GCP infrastructure knowledge.
• Ability to build backend services in addition to infrastructure work.
• Strong problem solving skills: identify problems, determine root cause, and deliver solutions.
• Ability to hold a high bar for quality, be a self-starter, and possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance business needs with technical solutions.

Nice to Have

• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with on-chain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
• Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.

Pay & Additional Info

• Pay Range: $154,000 — $154,000 CAD (full-time offers also include target bonus, target equity, and benefits such as medical, dental, and vision).
• Coinbase requires periodic in-person participation throughout the year and holds multiple offsites annually.
