Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Platform (Compute)

At Coinbase, the Platform Product Group builds and maintains the platforms critical to the company's operations. The Compute team builds and operates the Kubernetes platform used as the primary compute orchestration infrastructure for services at Coinbase. This role contributes to improving the scalability, reliability, efficiency, and operational experience of using Kubernetes and related compute orchestration systems.

Responsibilities

• Build tooling and automation to make management of Kubernetes clusters easy and reliable.
• Build tooling and automation to improve the developer and operational experience of working with Kubernetes for all users.
• Operationalize the Kubernetes platform so it is automated and self-healing to reduce on-call burden.
• Develop net-new Kubernetes-related capabilities for service owners (examples given: one-off jobs, cron, different deployment strategies, support for EFS, automated right sizing).
• Support customers as they operate critical services on Kubernetes.
• Collaborate closely with Routing, Security, Reliability, and Observability teams and other stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of software engineering experience.
• Some knowledge of Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration systems (e.g., Mesos, Nomad).
• Working knowledge of AWS and/or GCP infrastructure.
• Ability to build backend services in addition to infrastructure tooling.
• Strong problem solving skills: identify root causes and drive solutions to completion.
• High quality bar, self-starter, strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance business needs with technical solutions.

Nice to Have

• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with on-chain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
• Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.

• Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers also include target bonus + benefits).
