Software Engineer, Infrastructure - Platform (Compute)

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. The Platform Product Group builds and maintains the platforms critical to Coinbase. The Compute team builds and operates the Kubernetes platform at Coinbase, improving scalability, reliability, efficiency, and the operational experience for services.

This role is remote-first but not remote-only; in-person participation is required throughout the year for team and company offsites. Answers to crypto-related questions may be used to evaluate onchain experience.

Responsibilities

• Build tooling and automation to make management of Kubernetes clusters easy and reliable.
• Build tooling and automation to improve the developer and operational experience of working with Kubernetes for all users.
• Operationalize the Kubernetes platform so it remains automated and self-healing to reduce on-call burden.
• Develop net-new Kubernetes-related capabilities for service owners (examples: one-off jobs, cron, different deployment strategies, support for EFS, automated right sizing).
• Support customers as they operate critical services for Coinbase in Kubernetes.

Requirements

• At least 2+ years of software engineering experience.
• Ideally some knowledge of Kubernetes or similar compute orchestration systems (e.g., Mesos, Nomad).
• Working AWS and/or GCP infrastructure knowledge.
• Ability to build backend services in addition to infrastructure.
• Strong problem solving skills and ability to identify root causes and follow through to solutions.
• Ability to hold a high bar for quality, be a self-starter, and have strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance business needs with technical solutions.

Nice to Have

• Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with on-chain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $152,405 — $179,300 USD (target annual salary; full-time offers include bonus eligibility and benefits).
